Please take me home. I’ll wuv you forever!
I’m sure I don’t have to tell you all the benefits of pet ownership. You already know about the decreased blood pressure, the possibility of a longer life, and the overall extreme happiness that owning pets can bring.
That’s why I want to call your attention to October’s National Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month (yes, I know I’m posting this in late October. I had a busy month. Work with me here, people!
).
Why adopt a shelter dog?
Why adopt a shelter pet when you can simply buy one from a store? Well . . .
- You can save the life of an animal who might otherwise be put down.
- Shelter dogs are often physically hardier. They have fewer long-term health problems than overbred, store-bought pets.
- You can adopt an adult pet and know what their personality is like in advance. (Who knew that adorable Malkatoo puppy wouldn’t be safe around kids? Oops.)
Anyway, there are many, many more reasons to adopt a “sheltie.” I can’t possibly list them all here. But if you’re still curious (or just want to show your support for homeless pets), hop on over to the American Humane Society or ASPCA website.
And in case you still had any doubts, here’s proof that it’s better to get a shelter dog than purchase one.
What about you guys? Any shelter dog success stories to share in the comments?
