Everyone needs inspiration, and frankly, I think writers need a bit more than most. Many times, it’s tempting give up, especially if you’re trying to blaze a path no one else has been down before. It’s also tempting to go along with the crowd, to doubt yourself and what you’re trying to accomplish. But deep in your heart, you know you’re doing the right thing. Sometimes, you just need a little reminder.
So, without further ado, here are some writing-related snippets to help get you through the day . . . or through your WIP:
“Write when the book sucks and it isn’t going anywhere. Just keep writing. It doesn’t suck. Your conscious is having a panic attack because it doesn’t believe your subconscious knows what it’s doing.” –Cory Doctorow
“Every day when I wake up in the morning and I come to work, I have no idea what’s going to happen. All the books that I think are going to sell don’t work, and all the books I don’t think are going to work sell a lot and win awards. That’s why I love this business so much.” –Bob Loomis, who retired in 2011 after 54 years as an editor with Random House
“More often than not, book publishing is totally unpredictable . . . like participating in a lottery. So keep pounding those computer keys if you are a writer. You never know.” –Hillel Black
“. . . the key isn’t doing something no one else is doing . . . the key is doing it better.” –Penny Sansevieri
“. . . and adding your own flavor to it.” –Ilana Waters

So in conclusion, do not stop writing! Follow your bliss, follow your dream—heck, follow the yellow brick road. Just make sure you’re walking the path your heart makes . . . and not following someone else’s.
