The book review
(Owl Rating)
“The Adventures of Stanley Delacourt is a fantastical Middle Grade Adventure. In the book, Stanley goes on an adventure to confront Siren, the man behind the killing of his friend Will and the burning down of Meadowwood’s library.
I thought the book was very well written; from the first page Waters weaves together a beautiful world. World-building in fantasy novels, especially in books aimed at younger audiences, is often very hard to accomplish. Often times the reader is left with tons of info dumping and a world that is too complex to understand. However, the world of Hartlandia is beautifully described and Stanley’s adventures in his world reminded me of Frodo’s leave from the Shire.
In addition, I really think this book will appeal to both girls and boys with two secondary characters being Meredith, a witch, and Sophie, Stanley’s lifelong friend whose strong personality provides a great contrast to Stanley’s quieter personality. As I have said before, I value an amazing friendship over insta-love any day.
Oh and did I mention there is magic?! Tons of magic. I am going to share my copy with my younger brother and I cannot wait for the next book in the series!!!
As the book description says: If you enjoy the fantasy works of Rick Riordan, Lemony Snicket, or Philip Pullman, then explore the world of Stanley Delacourt today!”
Did you hear that, dear readers? Five owls! Woo-hoo! Or perhaps I should say “Woo-hoot?”
